Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra taken in NYC in a thrift store which resells movie props. You really couldn’t tell what most stuff was or where it had been used. But there was a shelf filled with plaques and awards all with fictitious names and events. Like, there’d be one that said “Awarded to Special Agent John Doe for extreme valor in 9/1/2001 given by a grateful company” and fake law degrees and medical degrees. I spent a lot of down time googling names on things and finding old TV pilots that went nowhere, minor characters from episodes of shows like Law and Order. For me it was even more interesting than looking at a collection of trophies at a yard sale and trying to put the real person behind them — these were thousands of bits of made up stories, stoves, clothes, hockey sticks, bric-a-brac, and …. giant disco balls.
